That's a rather emphatic title, but I do firmly believe this is best homemade pizza recipe I've ever had. Pizza is a staple in our house, but I love making it from scratch as it gives us the flexibility to tweak it however we want.
The recipe we use usually makes two pizzas. And of course, we make homemade sauce from whatever ingredients we have in our cupboard. We're inventive like that. ;)
This is the key to our pizza. We bake the pizza in a cast iron pan instead of on a stone or pan. The cast iron gives us the perfect shape, allows the crust to become just a bit fluffy, and never burns the bottom of the pizza.
1 1/2 cup warm water
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 package (1 1/2 tablespoons) dry yeast
4 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Combine first 4 ingredients in a mixing bowl; sprinkle yeast over the mixture. Stir until dissolved. Gradually add the flour, mixing well after each addition. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place for one hour or until doubled.
Punch dough down and divide in half. Roll out the dough for the pizza and add toppings as desired.
Bake at 450* for 20-25 minutes.
