How to travel (when life gets busy)

When life gets busy, I have a tendency to sit down at home and not want to go anywhere. After a week of exhausting days, who really wants to drive several hours and sightsee for two days. My coveted weekend time is gone if that happens!

I'm sure it doesn't help that my husband and I try to squeeze in as much as possible in a weekend! We like to check things off our list as we see them. Traveling can be exhausting and there is so much more to it than buying a ticket and hopping on a plane. Here are some tips we follow when we travel over the weekend!

 1. Go somewhere that you've been before so you don't feel like you have to rush around and see X, Y, and Z. Yes, it's missing the allure of the unknown, but you're also not seeing as much as possible on limited time. You have the advantage of knowing the best coffeehouses and restaurants and you're not struggling to find a good place to eat at 9:00 at night when you're starving, tired, and annoyed.

2. Go somewhere relaxing. Is there a spa nearby? Splurge. What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon then being pampered with a hot rock massage or a pedicure? Not the spa type? Look up coffee houses and sit there while reading a book that you've been meaning to start. Or grab your coffee and meander around the town. Breathe in the air, avoid checking your cell, and relax and enjoy your surroundings.

3. Pack light. Seriously, who is going to care if you wear the same jeans 2 days in a row? Pack a weekender bag (they are called that for a reason) and leave the rolling suitcase in the closet. Throw some light make-up in a bag and forgo the hairdryer and straightener. Blow drying your hair takes time anyhow and the heat of the spa will just make it frizz. :) The less you have to pack, the less hassle traveling will be.

4. Utilize your driving/flying time. Audiobooks are perfect for both car and plane rides. Or, rent a movie and watch it on the plane if you're a nervous flyer (you're not alone! Movies help me too!) Or, download a new album and memorize the lines!

5. Put everything away as soon as you get home. Throw that laundry into the wash and put the bags away. Mondays can be stressful enough; you don't need the extra hassle of cleaning up after your weekend looming over your day!

6. Relax. Enjoy. Have fun.
